My daughter is almost eight years old, she has a few more years before the tween/teen stage but I can already feel the pangs of her growing up. She has so MANY questions and is already in a size 8 womens shoe, yes she is tall for her age but size 8, really? It looks like she is doomed to have her moms boat size feet.
There is nothing I want more for my daughter then to have a relationship with her Savior in a deep way, way before she thinks about boys or growing up too fast. I want her to be a girl with good values, a girl that is modest and cares for others. I want her to know and appreciate self worth and that she is a prize to be held. I want her to care about purity and how to serve. I want her to be a young woman of prayer and to follow God’s will for her life, whatever that be!
I realize though that just because I want all those things for her won’t make them so. I have to release her to God, I have to let HIM work in her. It is so wonderful when you find a resource that can help you help your children in following God’s will for their lives. Pumpkin Seed Press does just that, they sell resources that help you in reaching your children’s hearts. Shelley also has a blog called B’twixt and B’tween for moms and tweens to get inspiration, ideas and wisdom for growing their relationship of mother/daughter.
I have heard Shelley Noonan speak several times at homeschooling conventions and am excited that she is going to be at Relevant this year. She has a heart for teaching children character and pouring into the relationship between mother/daughter. I was so excited to be getting The Companion Guide To Beautiful Girlhood written by Shelly for the book Beautiful Girlhood which is a revised version of the M. Hale original, written by Karen Andreola.
The companion walks you through Beautiful Girlhood giving you a discussion questions to do with each other, bible study and application and more. This is a WONDERFUL activity to do with your daughter, you could do the book each night before bed, make special tea times for it, or any special time. If you are looking for a great way to connect with your daughter this is a great book set to make that happen. This book helps you talk to your daughter about her body changes, friendships, obedience and many other wonderful character traits. It helps you both and you will grow from the experience. It is truly wonderful!
Far away there in sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead. Louisa May Alcott
