Homeschool News!

This is the time of the year when homeschoolers are starting to look at convention schedules, new curriculum, and much more.  Maybe there are some of you that are wondering if you can homeschool and are considering it for your family.  So today I thought I would share some homeschool news with you!

First of all-  I have been a part of the TOS Homeschool Crew review team and have really enjoyed it.  The current crew is almost finished with their year and they are in the beginning stages of looking for a team for the upcoming year. If you are interested in becoming a part of the 2011-2012 Crew, check to see if the following describe you:

1. You must have a blog and  have the time to review products(sometimes in place of your main curriculum), and can meet deadlines to have the reviews up at a particular due date.

2. You have an established blog, post regularly, and have a minimum of 25 followers.

3. You have a Facebook account (either personal or for your blog).

If you are interested in joining next year’s crew, read through the application: TOS 2011-2011 Crew Application

Here is what their page says:

We want to celebrate and provide support during this busy time, so we’re throwing a Facebook party! Take an hour to join us on our Facebook Wall as we chat, answer questions, give away prizes, and, of course, give you a virtual “party bag” of your own full of some goodies.

The party is… this Thursday, March 17 from 8-9 p.m. EST, and . . . YOU”RE INVITED! Simply click the buttons on this invitation to RSVP.

On Thursday, March 17 at 8:00 p.m. EST, come to the Apologia Facebook Wall and look for instructions (Check out the graphic in the left hand side of our page when you arrive.)

Apologia authors and speakers will be here to answer your questions about homeschooling, mentoring our children, and more. Chat with Rachael Carman, Sherri Seligson, and Debra Bell.

And of course, we’ll bring our party bag of giveaways. Which will include books from our new Christian worldview curriculum–the What We Believe series, homeschool encouragement books, and . . . we’ll give away one of the new Apologia lab coats!

The goodie bags of free stuff will include a lapbook from Egghead Academics and some helpful resources from The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.

And last if you have never been to a homeschool convention you should really consider going.  Conventions will motivate you like nothing else, they will encourage and teach you so much!   It will also give you a time to be with like minded people, it is such a great feeling to be around so many people who share your vision, especially if you are in an area that doesn’t have support groups.  Homeschooling can sometimes be a lonely endeavor and conventions remind you that you are NOT alone in this at all.  I have never missed a convention since I started homeschooling.   I live in the Cincinnati area so I will be going to the Cincinnati Convention, the tickets will be going up on March 27th so if you are considering this one you should get your tickets now.  To find one in your area check out this site.
