We are homeshoolers and we love eduational apps! When you can let a child play with a app to help them with learning it can really make education fun. Now there is an app to help with HANDWRITING! Yes, that dreaded word so many kids hate! This app is called iTrace . My kids love the apps where there are rewards and this app does just that. There is just something about the challenge of earning something that makes them feel good. Kinda of like us, huh? You work hard, you earn and with each one you get correct you get a star. There are over 600 rewards for this program as you progress! My kids also like the different backgrounds you can earn, it just puts some fun into it. You can also switch this for left hand use!
The child can use their finger or the stylus to write their letter on the ipad and it is such a great way to learn letter formation. I was amazed at my skill or maybe I should say lack of (my handwriting is HORRIBLE), staying straight was not all that easy. If you have a child that constantly forms his/her letters wrong or backwards this is great because playing with this app they will form new habits that I believe they will take with them to pen and paper. This app helps them with their name,numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and words. Many of us learned different methods for writing and this app supports multiple methods for writing certain letters.
We do a workbox system here at home and the ipad goes into one of their boxes for educational learning and it is great seeing kids excited about practicing handwriting, never thought I would see that day!
This app was developed under the guidance of seasoned educational professionals, iTrace uses the iPad’s touch screen to teach children the basics of writing, and spelling. With support for multiple players, the app saves the entire history of each player, ensuring that their individual progress is clearly documented and celebrated with the app’s collection of exciting visual rewards.
Feature Highlights:
* 600+ different rewards
* 50 animated objects
* Supports multiple players
* Saves the entire history of each child’s progress

* A simple switch adjusts the entire system for left-handed kids

iTrace for the iPad is available for $3.99 on the iTunes App Store.

Thanks for letting us know about this app! I am a pediatric occupational therapist and my favorite handwriting app at the moment is called Ready to Print. It was developed by an OT and takes children through the whole developmental progression that leads up to writing. I love it and use it as one tool in my “toolbag” for helping kids with their pre-writing. It’s $9.99 from the app store and I hope to be writing a review of it in the near future. But I will keep this one in mind as well!
