My dad grew up in severe poverty. He quit school in the 8th grade because he really needed to work for his family but work HARD he did and has now been a business owner for over 40 years. Although my dad quit school early he later finished his GED when I was in high school, he didn’t want to give up that degree. What has always amazed me the most about my dad is his wisdom. He was the smartest man I knew growing up and I would often ask him what a word meant, not kidding (he always knew, his vocab skills were SERIOUS) a man who never went to college but was well read and kept up on current events like no other I had ever known.
(Me, my brother graduating from law school and my dad)
His words of wisdom to me was:
Get a good education
Pray a LOT
Work hard at everything you do
My dad is not perfect (no one is) but I know much of who I am today is because of him. I love my dad!
