We don’t use text books here in our homeschool, we learn more from a literature based approach. We recently received a Social Studies book for my 1st grader from the TOS crew from Pearson Education. called “Social Studies, All Together“ by Scott Foresman, published by Pearson Education found HERE . The student edition costs $43.47.
This is a text book for sure but we have enjoyed it as an extra. The book reminds me so much of my days of being in school. The pictures in the book are colorful and vibrant. We use it in our workboxes and we read several pages a day. It is a great book to share about your community, teach you about charts, inventions, and has a special section in each chapter that tells about someone famous in history (short biography) I love that part. The book covers history, economics, science and technology, geography, culture, citizenship, government, and national symbols. My two youngest really seem to get into the book. There is a review at the end that asks questions about all that they have learned.
The material is organized in the following chapters:
Time for school
In my community
Work! Work! Work!
Our Earth, our resources
This is our country
Our country, our world
If you use text books in your homeschool, this is an excellent option, if not it still makes a great supplement!
